Kansas, aka the Sunflower State, is the 34th state to enter the union as a free state of the United States on January 29, 1861. Famous residents of Kansas include, former president Dwight D. Eisenhower, pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart and educator, inventor and scientist George Washington Carver.
